Ulysses S. Grant
One of the greatest Civil War generals you could have was Ulysses S. Grant. He is great because of the many important battles as in the battle of Fort Henry. One of his strategy is to go to Vicksburg, Mississippi to cut confederacy into two as compared to what he had said. "In every battle there comes a time when both sides consider themselves beaten, then he who continues the attack wins."On the way to Richmond he had met another general named General Sherman. His main goal was to take down General Lee and Richmond. Lee surrendered in Richmond and he made sure he didn't get treason.
Robert E. Lee
"I cannot trust a man to control others who cannot control himself" said by one famous general who goes by the name by Robert E. Lee who had opposed the idea of the Virginia succession which is his home state. Since he was with his home town. He refused to be the Union General when Lincoln asked him. Many men had respected and admired him and also because he motivated them. As all those things had happened. He was at war of the second "Battle of Bull Run", Frederick burg, and Chancellorsville. Final surrender was at Appomattox Court as Richmond.
Jefferson Davis
"All we ask is to be let alone."
One of the western war hero during the Civil War was a person named Jefferson Davis. He was the first president of the confederacy chosen by the Southerners. He was the general of the confederacy army. After all that he was elected as a "good leader", but he ran his army really low because he was arguing with his generals. The thing he didn't want to be was the president, but he was super easy to influence. Southerners were debating on what the laws were going to be for their new country. He had argued against the state rights. Later he was tried for treason in the year 1866, then he was released in 1868.
Abraham Lincoln
"Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?"
This is one of the most famous presidents in history and he goes by the name of Abraham Lincoln. First off he was one of the early leaders of the republican party and also a Illinois lawyer. In 1858 he had challenge Douglas to a debate and the debate focused on the spread of slavery (in the west). Lincoln was not trying to destroy slavery, but he hoped to wait for slavery to fade and be gone with in the west while also trying to prevent the spread of it. Then in 1859 John Brown's raid had attacked the federal armory and throughout the country. John and Abe both had the same opinion which was that slavery was wrong. On one case there was a slave who was a citizen living on free soil made him free.Then the election came in and the 16th president was Abraham Lincoln who had all the free states on his side against Steven Douglas on the year 1860.
